Philosophy
I love the challenge that metal represents. The very nature of this material-the power, hardness, and
brilliance-evokes a rich vocabulary that is visually
endless. And, as a process person, I am first and foremost
a fabricator fitting diverse materials together to create a new harmonious whole. It feels much like life itself
in the 21st century.
Throughout time jewelry has been, among other things, a signaling device that we use to establish who we think
we are. Jewelry can inform and enlighten us. Quite beyond pleasure and admiration, jewelry, at its best, can make
us pause, think, and wonder anew. In it we can find a part of ourselves. This is not trivial stuff; rather it satisfies
a most basic of human needs; identifying ourselves to ourselves. It doesn't get more personal.
Natural materials, especially stone and mineral, are very precious to me. They are beyond the contrived value of
diamonds and they remind us gently of time on many levels. With nature as my source of inspiration, my goal is
to touch the lives of the like - minded people, people who want to keep in touch mentally and emotionally with
the natural world. |
