My Background

I was fortunate to have my early interest in art nourished throughout my grammar and high school years, and I continued on with college art courses. In addition, I have studied with well-known local artists. Since I married and had two sons, I felt I had to be practical when I returned to college as an adult, and have a degree in Early Childhood Education.

I was Director of a Montessori classroom for sixteen years (South Holland, IL), introducing young children to art and music as part of the Montessori curriculum. I also worked at Purdue University Calumet (Hammond, IN) training adult child care workers in Developmentally Appropriate Practices for young children. In this capacity, I helped them become familiar with a variety of art materials, so they could pass this knowledge along to the children in their care. In addition, I have taught elementary art at all grade levels in the East Chicago, IN schools. This was made possible by a grant administered through the South Shore Arts in Munster, IN.

My Inspiration

I am a nature lover and am inspired by the natural world; landscapes, seascapes, animals and plants. In my work I attempt to capture something I think is special and should be remembered and enjoyed by others as well.

My Process

I am a studio artist and work primarily from photographs, although whenever possible, I like to paint from life. That is especially true for my still life, animal and flower pieces, starting with a sketch I then transfer to canvas. I work in oils because I think they are a good fit or my style. In addition, I have done decorative painting on public buildings and private homes, including children's rooms.

Artist's Statement

I have always been an artist and loved working with my hands and creating things. I am fortunate to have been and continue to be juried into many exhibitions, and have won awards. My work is in corporate and private collections.
